Yarding the ol fenders

Project : 1931 Model A roadster

Well here we go , I finished the 30 day project some time ago and was immediately hit up by Mickey Himself for it, long story really , but its off to greener pastures in Concord ,Ca. In the deal no money was changed hands but I was able to trade into a stock restored 31 Model A deluxe roadster. Plans for it were to drive it until the chevy was done then it would get the face lift if someone dint talk me out of it before hand. Im big for a Model A. Well the metalwork is done on the Chevy and its dechromed waiting for the call to go into bodywork. Im sting that one out this time and having my good friend Julio do it , he's waaaaay better than me .

Here's the plan I have as of now . Take it from a stocker to a hotrod documenting the power gains or um losses along the way . As I got it , it was already converted to 12 volt and had a Model b Dizzy on it , thats it . not much , but I'm sure that was a gain of something  so here we go. All speeds documented through GPS on the way to work.

Base line top speed stock  48MPH

Idle hands are the devils advocate, and between helping with 2 bonneville cars and time clicking away , regular work and kids and family , I figured hell I got plenty of time to get this roadster dialed. So I started pulling stuff out of the rafters to get this thing dialed a little bit . First were some 17 inch bent spokes I had been holding onto and had them wrapped in 700's and 525's

HIGH SPEED!!! Adding the bigger tires brought my top speed to 52 MPH a significant raise.

Then we went in the back yard and got out some hand tools to get the looks closer to my liking . I had a choice keep the fenders on and start pulling springs for a quick lowering job , or take em off and be high and mighty. I went for the fenders to be off. I unbolted them , and kept everything just to make sure if I wanted to I could put them back on at a later time. Not really sure of the end game direction on this one. Right now Im just having fun with it.

Well the loss of the fenders brought my overall speed up to 58 MPH, thats right, I could crack 60 on a downhill Ill bet! or look for a good tail wind.

Lots more to come , Now were gonna try a real distributer, a real set of carbs and hell maybe even a head!  and damnit if I don't wanna chop the hell out of this thing its getting me sick with all the headroom!

For your enjoyment heres a video of the fender transformation!
