Top Secret Drags’ by Joshua Elzey

Tornados CC put out a rumor in August about hosting another drag event labeled “Top Secret Drags” to be held the weekend of September 13th amongst a busy weekend for northeast hot rodders. The drag was held within Romulus, NY at the decommissioned Seneca Army Depot that was perfect for the grass roots flag starting vintage racing. The US Army cleared over 10000 acres in the Finger Lakes region and put in place some amazing airfields that had well-kept strips of asphalt. The event was open to hotrods, gassers, FED, bikes and other specialty racers that met the vintage rules.

With camping allowed, many set up along the sides of the airfield reminiscent of the sixties drag era as it contained the pits, race cars, vendors, pinstripers, swap meet, and enough space to hang out all in one place. The track was so long that racers could go full throttle and come to a stop without the use of parachutes. There was plenty of action Friday thru Sunday as everyone raced for the pure sport of it under perfect weather. At night there was some music and movies for entertainment but when was all put to bed one could hear a pin drop 100 miles away! It was great family event!
